OUR STORY
Tarheel Contractors Supply, Inc (Tarheel) was incorporated in Denver, NC in 1994 by Jerry Harkey and Ron Hitch primarily as a distributor for Melfred Borzall, a manufacturer of after-market tooling for the horizontal directional drilling industry. In January of 2001 Tarheel was purchased by current owner and CEO, Harold Peeples.
As those in the industry well know, 2001 to 2004 was a volatile time in the industry. As a new owner Harold and his business survived the telecom bust and the business turmoil following the September 11th attack. Luckily by 2004 the economy and the HDD industry began to stabilize and new opportunities for growth became clear. In addition to tooling, drill rods, and conduit the company began to focus on technical sales and support for drilling fluids. This yielded dramatic growth making Tarheel the largest distributor of HDD drilling fluids for its manufacturer.
In 2005 Harold purchased property at 162 Porter Road in his hometown of Rock Hill, SC and moved the business. Shortly thereafter, Tarheel launched a successful marketing effort in Virginia that led to greater expansion there and in eastern North Carolina. To better serve the growing market area, a second location was established in Rocky Mount, NC.
Tarheel’s sales territory now extends from Georgia to Washington D.C. along the coast and inland to Tennessee. This has lead to steady growth. Currently Tarheel is on target to achieve its fourth consecutive record year.

Tarheel Contractor Supply provides us a single source for our underground utility construction needs. Tarheel offers more than just products – they offer in the class and in the field training on drilling products (additives), from application, to mixing, handling and even bulk order processing. They will find the best solution for the customer. And if you have a difficult bore, and the mud isn’t right – they will come out to the jobsite and assist you to get it right ! They also stock the down hole tools and equipment that we need, and they know and document what we use.
